I couldn’t go to the protests today because I’m sick and I have too much work, BUT last week I went (pretty late) to the Block Friday protest at La Défense.
Let’s be honest: the hundred kids who were there couldn’t do much to keep the thousands of people there from shopping. They were going here in there to block some stores or escalators, to scream and sing or do a die-in. A bit of mayhem that some shoppers might not have even noticed.
And still, seeing these young kids (like REALLY young) so fearless, angry and determined moved me a lot. It reminded me of the lyrics of The Times Are A-Changing: “Come mothers and fathers/ Throughout the land/ And don’t criticize/ What you can’t understand/ Your sons and your daughters/ Are beyond your command/ Your old road is rapidly agin’/Please get out of the new one/ If you can’t lend your hand/ For the times they are a-changing”
Hope the change is coming ✊
